Ospreys Men Take Flight...

...on the 2017 Soccer Season with a Scrimmage at SOU

The Ospreys men took on Southern Oregon University in a friendly scrimmage on Saturday, August 12, beginning the third season for a program that is primed and ready for results.

Head coach Greg Millick has high expectations for the coming season. “I am very excited. The work that has been put in this off-season by the players, coaches, and college staff is going to make this season a great one," he said, adding, "In addition to players I was able to find an assistant coach to be a part of my staff. I am very excited to have Ethann on board.”

New assistant coach Ethann D’Amato hails from Grants Pass with collegiate playing experience at Pacific University. Millick has added 16 new players to the program this season in addition to the 6 players we are returning from 2016.  The incoming class is a very talented, Millick adds. "We wanted to continue to get quality technical players, but also needed to focus on adding athletes who could physically take our play to the next level. I believe we have found those players in this class and I am very excited to work with this group."

Returning for the men’s program are Trenton Luebbert, Sebastian Tovar, Anthony Ramirez, Josiah Quijano, Alex Bauer, and Beto Estrada. Coach Millick brought in sophomore transfers Alejandro Velazquez and Erik Velasquez out of the San Francisco Bay Area to bring another level of veteran experience and a balance to this year’s roster. Along with the eight sophomores, the program brings in fourteen freshman who are ready to prove what they can bring to the team: Darrin DeGroot, Alex Thornhill, Trenton Anderson, Jose Mendoza, Jonathan Martinez, Kevin Huerta, Stenley Graham, Mauricio Sanchez, Ramiro Alvarado Suarez, Cole Coster, Enrique Gonzalez, Abraham Sigala, Jose Gallegos, and Hunter Soper.

Coming together around team values and committing to the upcoming challenges, the players have developed a winning mentality, doing what they have to on and off the field to lead their team and themselves to excellence. The regular season begins with a match against Portland Community College on Saturday, September 9 at 4 p.m.  at US Cellular Community Park, soccer field 14 in Medford.
