Undefeated Ospreys Men Defeat SWOCC 2-1

MEDFORD -- The Rogue Community College men's soccer team battled to a 2-1 victory over Southwestern Oregon Community College at U.S. Cellular Community Park on Wednesday, Oct. 4, keeping the Ospreys' record clean in conference play at 5-0.

The Ospreys (6-1-0, 5-0-0 NWAC) got a quick lead over the Lakers (2-5-2, 0-5-1) in the first half as sophomore Trenton Luebbert played the ball across the middle and found Stenley Graham for the finish in the 5th minute. The offensive attack continued a short while later as Abraham Sigala sent a corner kick into the box and Mauricio Sanchez flew for the header that sneaked inside the back post during the 14th minute. It was a back-and-forth defensive battle after the second goal and the Ospreys went into the half up 2-0.

The second half brought out a charged up Southwestern team as they accelerated their offensive attack applying pressure from all angles of the field. The Ospreys defense fought back but allowed a goal in the 84th minute when Ramon Horta sent the ball into the box and Alex Moskowitz put it into the net. The final minutes were a flurry of shots but nothing found the net and the Ospreys took home a 2-1 victory remaining undefeated in conference play.

Three yellow cards were issued during the match: Jose Mendoza (RCC), Alex Moskowitz (SOCC), and Head Coach Brad Williams (SOCC).

The Ospreys men remain in first place in the South Division of the Northwest Athletic Conference with 15 points and a 5-0 record. They head to Hillsboro (4-1-1, 2-0-1) on Sunday, Oct. 8, to play Portland Community College. Game time is 2 p.m.
