EUGENE – The Rogue Community College women’s soccer team opened up the scoring but couldn't keep pace as they fell 4-1 to Lane Community College on the road Wednesday, Oct. 11.
The RCC Ospreys (1-6-2, 1-4-2 NWAC) needed a win against the Lane Titans (6-5-2, 5-3-0) to start the back half of the season and rejuvenate their playoff chances. Sophomore Annie Teehan got the scoring started in the 29th minute as she put the Ospreys up 1-0 with a goal off an assist from Lorena Bracamontes. Lane countered in the 37th minute when Danielle VanOrd scored off an assist from Kyla Ganchan Romero. Just four minutes later VanOrd found the net for a second time, this time assisted by Callie Lambert, to put Lane up 2-1 at the half.
Coming out in the second half the Ospreys battled hard but were unable to find offensive opportunities. In the 67th minute, Lane's Autumn Straub played the ball to Kalea Nyby who put it into the net. Lane would get one final goal in the 76th minute when Alia Donley scored unassisted. The Ospreys lost the match 4-1.
The Ospreys are back in action Saturday, Oct. 14, at 2 p.m. when they take on Chemeketa Community College (4-5-3, 2-4-2) at U.S. Cellular Community Park field 10 in Medford. The Ospreys currently sit in 6th place in the South Division of Northwest Athletic Conference play.
