Ospreys Fall to Lane in Back-to-Back Games

MEDFORD – The Rogue Community College (RCC) Ospreys women’s and men’s teams were taking on Lane Community College (LCC) Wednesday October 3rd. The women played first and were under attack the entire length of the game as they lost 6-0. The men followed and played a contested match but ultimately lost 2-0.

Ospreys Women:
The Ospreys (4-5-1, 3-3-1 NWAC) faced a tough challenge against the Lane (10-1-1, 6-1-0) women who are ranked 6th overall in NWAC play. Lane took little time to start their attack. In the 13th minute, Bailey Johnson assisted Danielle VanOrd on a goal to go up 1-0. It would be the first of four goals for VanOrd. Her second would come on an assist from Yuuyu Suzuki in the 24th minute and her third would come in the 31st minute unassisted. They went into the half with Lane up 3-0.

The second half played out much like the first. VanOrd started things off in the 60th minute from an assist by Moe Sato to go up 4-0. In the 67th minute Suzuki would get a goal to go along with her assist and the final goal came in the 90th minute when VanOrd assisted Morgan Richards to seal the game. The Ospreys lost the match 6-0. Keepers Mache and Cowee for the Ospreys combined for 17 saves with the 6 goals allowed.

The Ospreys women are on the road for the next match, traveling to Coos Bay to take on Southwestern Community College Lakers (1-6-2, 1-5-1) Saturday October 6th at noon.

Ospreys Men:
The Ospreys (0-7-1, 0-6-0 NWAC) hoped to find a spark to turn around the back half of their season as they took on Lane (6-4-1, 3-2-1, but Lane made it challenging as they opened up the scoring on a free kick from just outside the box. Cian Cronin sent it across and Matthew Peagram headed it in to make it 1-0. Later in the first half Jacob McDonald crossed it and found Santos Martinez who flicked it past the keeper to go up 2-0. They went into the half with the Ospreys down 2-0.

In the second half, the Ospreys play improved but not enough. They battled back and forth but neither side connected on an opportunity. The match ended with a 2-0 loss for the Ospreys.

Two yellow cards were handed out during the match: Omar Navarro-Ramirez (LCC – 14th) and Ryan Connop (RCC – 45th).

The Ospreys are the road next as they travel to Salem Oregon to take on Chemeketa Community College (9-1-1, 5-0-1) Saturday October 6 at noon.
