Ospreys Cross Country & Men’s Soccer Battle on the Road over Weekend

The Rogue Community College (RCC) men’s and women’s cross country teams turned in competitive times this weekend at the 42nd Annual Charles Bowles Willamette Invitational sponsored by Willamette University at Bush's Pasture Park in Salem, Oregon.

The men placed 16th overall, and finished in 6th place in the Junior College Division.

The men finished as follows:
47. Salvador Salinas 25:55
130. Devin Rodman 27:43
164. Leif Amundsen 29:01
176. Nigel Leonis 29:51
181. Cameron Merker 30:16
189. Rio Lopez 31:05

Two runners represented the Rogue women’s cross country team Saturday, in Salem. The women finished as follows:
43.Mallory Ward 18:55
105.Allex Bachtell 21:05

Head Coach Cole Watson didn’t feel that the men’s team had their best race, as it may have had to do where the race fell on block of training they are currently engaged in.

“I may have let them taper a little too much a get soft. Regardless, we won't change our goals; we'll make some adjustments, but stay true to what we do,” Coach Watson stated. “This is just one race in the grand scheme of it all and does not define our season or our potential to do really well come conference. We still got 6th amongst junior colleges and we held out one of our top runners for strategic purposes, so I feel like we're still in a good place.” Watson added, “The women on the other hand, ran excellent and executed their race plans really well. Mallory had a personal best by over a minute. Alex had a personal best for 5k cross-country by about 40 seconds. They both looked really strong over halfway through their race.”

The Ospreys cross country teams are back in action Saturday, October 15, at the Lewis and Clark Invite in Estacada, Oregon.

Men’s Soccer

The Rogue Community College men’s soccer team (3-3-1) (5-4-1) dropped a match on the road Saturday afternoon, but avoided the shutout against the Clark College Penguins (4-3-0) (4-6-1) by scoring late in the second half to make it 4-1. The Penguin’s David Joyce produced a hat trick in the first half collecting three unanswered goals in the first 25 minutes of the game. Woodlin Placide scored in the 55th minute before Brandon Sauceda’s solo shot in the 72nd minute put the Ospreys on the board. Jorge Pinon (RCC) and Kyle Millette (RCC) both were issued yellow cards.

The Ospreys host the Southwestern Community College Lakers (0-7-0) (0-10-1) at home at U.S. Cellular Community Park in Medford, Wednesday at 2 p.m.

Women's Soccer

Women’s soccer (3-3-0) (3-5-0) is on the road Wednesday as they travel to Clackamas for a 1 p.m. mid-week match.
