Rogue Ospreys Enter Soccer Season with One in the Win Column and One in the Loss Column

Ospreys Women Shut Out PCC

The Rogue Community College Women’s Soccer team traveled north on I-5 to play at Hillsboro Stadium on September 10, 2016, as they took on Portland Community College in the opening game of conference Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) league play and left in the win column.

The Ospreys women played a great game that also earned them their first shutout of the season. The shutout in net goes to Alycea Jones who had to make three saves on the day. The game was made interesting when in the 15th minute red cards were shown to a RCC defender and  PCC forward making it a 10v10 game for the remainder of time.

The Ospreys rallied around their teammate and were lifted up when Samantha Lilley assisted Renae Nisbet in the 20th minute to put RCC up 1-0. After a short dry spell for Haley Janky in preseason she opened the flood gates when she found the net off a pass from Ashley Fontanelli in the 33rd minute to put them up 2-0 going in to the locker room for halftime.

Janky came back out fired up and Nisbet assisted in what put the Ospreys up 3-0. Finally, for good measure, in the 86th minute Janky made a breaking run to goal that put her 1v1 with the keeper and she netted her 3rd of the day for the hat-trick and the final goal of the match to end it 4-0.

Head Coach Rusty Veth said, "It was a great day to be an Osprey. From Jones in net to our backline, and players having to step in to new spots due to the red card, and midfielders on to forwards we played some great soccer. I can't praise this group enough for the hard work they put in and the expectation bar we are able to continually raise. I'm fortunate to be working with this group of talented athletes."

The Rogue women are now 1-0 in conference play and 3-2 overall. They are sitting in 3rd place in the Southern Region standings of the NWAC. Their next match is Wednesday, September 14 at home as they try to knock off Clark College who currently sits in first place. Kickoff is at noon at US Cellular Fields #10 in Medford, Oregon.

Ospreys Men Have Tough Opener

The Rogue Community College Men’s Soccer team opened Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) league play on the road against Portland Community College in Hillsboro on September 10. The Ospreys were coming off a 2-1 preseason record and were looking to continue momentum entering league play. PCC had other ideas, downing the Ospreys in a 6-0 rout. The Ospreys conceded 3 goals in each half of play.

“It’s difficult to have this result when we worked so hard in the preseason to identify what we want to do and how we want to play,” said head coach Greg Millick. “We have work to do and the players know we do not accept this type of performance. We will get back to training and get ready for Clark.”

The Ospreys Men will host Clark College on Wednesday, September 14 at US Cellular Park in Medford, Oregon. Kickoff is 2 p.m. at field 10.
