Tukwila, WA – The Rogue Community College (RCC) Ospreys men’s and women’s soccer programs opened their seasons at the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) Soccer Friendlies held at the Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila, Washington. The Ospreys men opened with a 2-2 draw against Columbia Basin College and a 5-0 loss against Tacoma College. The Ospreys women fell 4-0 against Yakima Valley College and 5-1 against Bellevue College.
The Ospreys men (0-1-1) took on Columbia Basin College (1-0-1) to begin their 2018 season of competition. The scoring began in the 25th minute when Armando Nieblas of Columbia Basin scored unassisted on a corner kick. In the 41st minute, the Ospreys would equalize when Ramiro Alvarado connected from just outside the 18-yard mark on an unassisted goal. They went into the half at a 1-1 draw. The Ospreys struck first in the second half when Alvarado sent in a corner kick to assist Enrique Gonzalez as he put the team up 2-1 in the 57th minute. Columbia Basin would equalize in the 75th minute on a corner kick by Brian Licona to Emilio Herrera who knocked it into the back of the net. The match would end in a 2-2 draw.
The second match for the Osprey men was against Tacoma Community College (2-0-0) and stayed competitive through the first half. Tacoma opened up the scoring in the 30th minute when Masa Fukushima scored unassisted. That would be the only goal of the first half as the Ospreys headed into the half down 1-0. The second half saw Tacoma get going lead by a hat-trick from Gezim Konjohi who scored Tacoma’s next three goals in the 63rd, 72nd, and 74th minutes. The final goal for Tacoma came in the 86th minute by Bubacar Touray. The match would end in a 5-0 loss for the Ospreys.
The Ospreys men travel to take on Lane Community College (1-1-0) next. It is the first match of South Region play and takes place on, Saturday, September 8 in Eugene, Oregon at 2:30 p.m.
The Ospreys women (0-2-0) began their NWAC Friendlies play against Yakima Valley College (2-0-0). The first half remained a stalemate as both teams were working into their rhythms and looking for opportunities. None would come as the teams went into the half at a 0-0 draw. In the second half, Yakima Valley began to light up the scoreboard. In the 48th minute, Natalie Wright would score unassisted followed by Wright assisting Kellie Pack in the 55th minute for their second goal of the day. Later in the 67th minute, Sessi Allott would assist Corynn Vigil on a goal in the 67th minute to put Yakima Valley up 3-0. The final goal came in the 81st minute when Maddie Hoffman assisted Brittany Little to finish the scoring and the match with a final of 4-0.
The second match for the women was against Bellevue College (1-0-0). The match opened up with the Ospreys taking the early lead as Logan Billy scored unassisted in the 3rd minute of play. That, however, would be the last goal of the day for the women as they allowed a total of 5 goals over the final 87 minutes of play. At the time of posting the goal scoring information for Bellevue was not available.
The Ospreys women are hosting Tacoma College (1-1-0) this coming Monday, August 27th at a neutral playing field at the Bob Kiefer Sports Complex Field 2 in Eugene, Oregon, kickoff is at 3:30 p.m. This will finish the pre-season matches for the women who will open up South Region play on Saturday, September 8 against Lane Community College (1-0-1) in Eugene, Oregon at noon.
