The Rogue Community College (RCC) Ospreys women’s soccer (1-2-0) team traveled to Eugene to host Tacoma Community College (1-2-0) on a neutral field located at the Bob Keefer Complex Monday, Aug. The Ospreys earned their first preseason victory with a 2-1 result.
The Ospreys were sluggish to start, taking time to find their rhythm. Early in the match, Tacoma’s offense was applying constant pressure and in the 10th minute Julian Johnson found the ball in a scrum in front of the net and knocked it past goalkeeper Megan Cowee. The Ospreys were quick to rebound when in the 19th minute they went on the attack. A shot bounced off the Tacoma goalkeeper direct to Celeste Ruiz who lobbed it back over the keeper and off the crossbar for a goal. The teams went into the break with a score of 1-1.
Fired up at halftime, the Ospreys came out pressing hard when in the 61st minute Logan Billy collected the ball near the midline and drove down the left side, cutting in and sending a lob shot over the keeper’s head and into the back of the net to put the Ospreys up 2-1. Tacoma pressured hard in the final 30 racking up shots, but second-half goalkeeper Mikayla Mache had five saves combining with Cowee for a total of eight Ospreys saves on the day as they split time. The Ospreys finished the match with a 2-1 victory.
The Ospreys start South Region play in their next match against Lane Community College (1-0-1). They will be on the road Saturday, Sept. 8 at noon in Eugene.
