MEDFORD – The Rogue Community College (RCC) Ospreys men held their home opener Saturday, Sept. 15 against the Chemeketa Community College (CCC) Storm. The match was fiercely contested on both sides with all goals coming in the final 30 minutes, but the Ospreys ultimately lost 3-1.
The Ospreys (0-3-1, 0-2-0 NWAC) started with a stiff defense against Chemeketa (6-1-0, 2-0-0). Both sides moved the ball back-and-forth looking for opportunities but the defenses held strong. They traded fouls and high pressure but neither could create an opportunity and the match went into the half 0-0.
Coming out in the second half, the pressure increased as both teams started creating opportunities on goal. Chemeketa would strike first in the 61st minute as Sebastian Ruelas collected the pass from Anthony Mota Sanches and found the back of the net to put Chemeketa up 1-0. Mota Sanches would follow shortly with a goal of his own in the 69th minute after getting assisted by Ruelas. The Ospreys quickly struck looking to get back in the game when Sam Bradfield found Enrique Gonzalez in front of the net in the 70th minute to make the score 2-1. However, Chemeketa would close the door in the 72nd minute when Mota Sanches scored his second on the day to put Chemeketa up 3-1. The match ended with a final score of 3-1.
There were four yellow cards issued during the match: Ramiro Alvarado (RCC – 24th), Team (CCC – 55th), Carlos Cordoba (RCC – 57th), and Anthony Mota Sanches (CCC – 57th).
The Ospreys are on the road for their next match traveling to Vancouver, Wash. on Wednesday, Sept. 19 to take on Clark College Penguins (0-4-1, 0-2-0).
