Ospreys Women Win at Home, Men Lose on the Road

MEDFORD – The Rogue Community College (RCC) Ospreys women and men’s teams were in action Saturday September 22nd. The women were playing at home against Clackamas Community College (CCC) and earned a 2-0 result. The men were playing on the road against Southwestern Community College (SWOCC) and lost the match with a final score of 5-0.

Ospreys Women:

The Ospreys (2-4-1, 1-2-1 NWAC) were at home against Clackamas (1-4-2, 1-3) and looking to get back on track. Early on they were headed in the right direction when Lara Nuttall crossed a ball into the center that was collected by Logan Billy who used a quick sidestep to get open and knocked if off the crossbar and into the net in the 17th minute to go up 1-0. A short while later a ball was deflected back by the CCC defense, corralled by Taylor Marshall, who lofted it up into the upper left corner of the goal bouncing it in to put the Ospreys up 2-0 at the half.

The second half saw the Ospreys put up nine more shots but none of them could find the net. The defense held strong and kept a clean sheet and the Ospreys earned a 2-0 victory.

The Ospreys are at home again for their next match when they take on Chemeketa Community College (1-8-0, 0-4-0) Wednesday September 26th at 1:30 at U.S. Cellular Community Park Field 14.

Ospreys Men:

The Ospreys (0-5-1, 0-4-0 NWAC) were on the road this weekend taking on the Southwestern Lakers (4-1-1, 2-1-1). The Ospreys found themselves in a hole early when Joe Montero assisted Sam Haghighat on a goal in the 6th minute to put SWOCC up 1-0. They were quick to strike again when Montero assisted Hernan Ibarra in 7th minute to put SWOCC up 2-0. The match would settle down after the first two initial goals and they would go into the half with SWOCC up 2-0.

The Ospreys came out strong in the second half but couldn’t generate any shots. In the 65th minute Eion Brown found Ibarra who put it away for his second goal in the 65th minute. Late in the match Haghighat assisted Anthoni Martin on a goal in the 87th minute to go up 4-0. And near the end of the second half a foul just outside the box lead to a free kick for Alex Moskowitz who put it in during the 90th minute to seal a 5-0 victory for SWOCC.

There were four yellow cards issued during the match: Ryan Connop (RCC), Angel Sonato (RCC), Alieu Diaw (SWOCC), and Kodai Kobayashi (RCC).

The Ospreys are at home for their next match against Portland Community College (3-2-1, 2-0-1) Saturday September 29th at 3:00 pm on U.S. Cellular Community Park Field 14.
