Ospreys Women Win 3-1, Move into 3rd Place

HILLSBORO — The Rogue Community College (RCC) Ospreys women were on the road Sunday, Sept. 30 taking on Portland Community College (PCC) at Ron Tonkin Stadium. The Ospreys went into the match knowing they could overtake PCC in the standings with a win and they did just that, earning a 3-1 victory.

The Ospreys (4-4-1, 3-2-1 NWAC) were riding a two-game win streak heading into their match with the PCC Panthers (4-5-1, 3-3-0) and wanted to maintain momentum and continue the push toward playoffs. The Ospreys set the tone early when Celeste Ruiz found the net in the 14th minute to put the Ospreys up 1-0. Just before half, Ruiz would strike again in the 45th minute, this time assisted by Logan Billy, and the Ospreys went into the half up 2-0.

Looking to keep the pace, the Ospreys came out in the second half and added to their total. This time it was Billy who scored, finding the net in the 57th minute to put the Ospreys up 3-0. PCC got one back in the 69th minute when Esmerelda Sanchez netted to put the final score at 3-1.

The win moves the Ospreys up to 3rd in the Southern Region standings with 10 points.

The Ospreys are at home for their next match as they begin the back half of the regular season. They host Lane Community College (9-1-1, 5-1-0) Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 1:30 p.m. at U.S. Cellular Community Park Field 14.
