Ospreys Men Fall at Home, Women’s Playoff Hunt Ends

MEDFORD – The Rogue Community College (RCC) Ospreys men’s and women’s soccer teams were in action Saturday, Oct. 20. The Osprey’s men hosted the South Region’s No. 1 ranked Southwestern Oregon Community College (SWOCC) and played well but gave up a penalty kick goal early on that was the difference as they fell 1-0. The Ospreys women ended their playoff hunt on the road when they fell 2-0 to Chemeketa Community College (CCC).

Ospreys Men
The Ospreys men (0-10-1, 0-9-0 NWAC) hoped to knock SWOCC (9-1-1, 7-1-1) out of first place in the South Region with a win; however, a foul just inside the box during the 9th minute allowed SWOCC striker, Joe Montero, a penalty kick that put SWOCC up 1-0.

Coming out in the second half, the Ospreys defense held strong. The offense had some quality looks at the goal but they were unable to score. The Ospreys lost 1-0. Goalkeeper Joel Witts played an amazing match with 11 saves, only giving up the penalty kick goal.

The Ospreys men play their final game of the season Wednesday, Oct. 24 at 1:30 p.m. when they travel to face Portland Community College (4-5-2, 3-3-2).

Ospreys Women
The Ospreys women (5-8-1, 4-6-1 NWAC) entered into the match against Chemeketa (3-12-1, 2-8-1) knowing they needed a win to keep their playoff hopes alive. The day would not go the Ospreys’ way as they gave up two goals and were unable to score, dropping the match 2-0.

The loss means the Ospreys women will not be able to earn enough points to move into 3rd place in the South Region and capture the final playoff spot.

The Ospreys women will play their final game of the season Wednesday, Oct. 24 at 1:30 p.m. when they host Portland Community College (7-7-1, 6-5-0) at U.S. Cellular Community Park, Field 14 in Medford.
