MEDFORD — The Rogue Community College Ospreys men’s soccer team was on the road in Salem Wednesday, Sept. 18 taking on Chemeketa Community College. It was an aggressive game between the two squads, but Rogue earned the victory with a 2-1 result.
The Ospreys (3-2-2, 1-0-1 NWAC) were looking for only their second victory in against Chemeketa (1-2-1, 1-1-0 NWAC) in program history and they got off to a good start in the first half. In the 20th minute Rogue earned a penalty kick and Jhoel Sarraude put it away to put the Ospreys up 1-0. The score remained 1-0 going into the half.
Coming out in the second half Chemeketa equalized in the 69th minute. Eleven minutes later, Luis Cerna found Omar Hernandez at the top of the box; Hernandez turned, fired and scored to put the Ospreys up 2-1. It would prove to be the deciding goal. The Ospreys won the day 2-1.
Four Ospreys earned yellow cards during the match: Daniel Ramirez, Gavin Wilmott, Parker Lauffenburger and Josue Reyes.
The Ospreys are home for their next two matches. They host Clark College (2-1-1, 0-1-1 NWAC) Saturday at 3:45 p.m. at US Cellular Community Park field 14. The Ospreys men currently sit in second place in the South Region.
