MEDFORD — The Rogue Community College Ospreys men’s and women’s soccer teams and volleyball were all in action at home Saturday, Sept. 21. All three teams hosted Clark College. Women’s soccer started hot but fell 4-1. Men’s soccer battled but fell 2-0. Volleyball came out strong and won 3-0 in three closely contested matches.
The Ospreys (1-5-2, 1-1-1 NWAC) came out matching Clark (3-3-1, 3-0-1 NWAC) with intensity, they would need it early. Clark scored in the 2nd minute to go up 1-0. Asha Sanders passed it through the back line to Taylor Marshall to equalize in the 8th minute. Clark scored again in the 17th, 25th and 34th minutes to go up 4-1 at the half. Rogue held Clark scoreless in the second half, ending the day with a 4-1 loss. The Ospreys sit at fourth place in the NWAC South Region.
The Ospreys (3-3-2, 1-2-0 NWAC) found themselves in a defensive battle against Clark (3-1-1, 1-1-1 NWAC). With only 14 shots in the match, the opportunities were few and far between. Clark scored in the 41st minute to lead 1-0 at the half. They scored again in the 81st minute to win the match 2-0. There was one yellow card for the Ospreys: Gavin Wilmott in the 87th minute.
The Ospreys (14-1, 3-0 NWAC) knew they would have to play hard all night long to earn the win against Clark (9-10, 1-2 NWAC). Each match proved to be closely contested as the two teams fought back and forth early until the Ospreys took control in the back half of each game. The Ospreys won the first game 25-17 and the second and third sets 25-23, to win the match 3-0.
Men’s soccer will host Southwestern Oregon (2-3-1, 2-0-1 NWAC) at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25 at US Cellular Field 14. Women’s soccer will be on the road Wednesday against Clackamas (0-4-1, 0-2-1 NWAC) at 1:30 p.m. Volleyball will be on the road for their next two matches, first taking on Clackamas (9-14, 1-2 NWAC) at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27.
