MEDFORD — The Rogue Community College Ospreys volleyball team held on to the top spot in the NWAC South Region after defeating second-place Lane Community College in a closely contested 3-1 home match Friday, Oct. 4.
The first set showed why the two teams are ranked at the top. They battled back and forth until Rogue won the game 29-27. The second set saw Rogue pull into form as they won with a comfortable 25-16 margin. The third set saw Lane battle back and earn a 26-24 win. The fourth set was another close battle but Rogue pulled ahead for a 25-20 win to earn a 3-1 victory on the match.
It was a complete team effort for the Ospreys: Paia Togagae led with 10 kills, her sister Violett Togagae had nine, and Noelani Beard had eight. Trinity Atuatasi had 30 digs followed by Jeanie Palsis with 18 — two of the six players who had double-digit digs.
The Ospreys remain in first place in the South Region and will host third-place Linn-Benton Saturday, Oct. 5, at 2 p.m.
