MEDFORD — The Rogue Community College Ospreys gutted out a 2-1 win against Southwestern Oregon in Coos Bay on Wednesday, Oct. 9, while the men lost 5-2 to Chemeketa at home.
The Ospreys (5-5-3, 5-1-2 NWAC) were game five of a six-game road trip as they faced Southwestern Oregon (0-9-1, 0-7-1 NWAC) Wednesday. Looking to keep their momentum going, the Ospreys played consistent pressure, dominating the shot count 12-4. Both Ospreys goals came in the second half, the first in the 54th minute when Faith Aurello found the back of the net. In the 58th minute, Anna Serna found Asha Sanders for the Ospreys' second goal. The won the match 2-1.
A red card was issued to the team, and Taylor Marshall, Stephanie Roe and Alexia Serrano each received yellow cards in the match.
The Ospreys (3-6-3, 1-5-1 NWAC) were hoping to find a win against Chemeketa (5-3-1, 5-2-0 NWAC) to spark a run in the back half of the season and make a playoff push. While they played hard and consistently all match, the goals were not to be found. Chemeketa led 4-0 before Rosendo Juarez found Jorge Tarrango for a goal in the 85th minute. Gavin Wilmott scored the second goal on a late penalty kick. The Ospreys lost the match 5-2.
Both teams have a BYE weekend this weekend and will be in action next Wednesday, Oct. 16 at Clark College in Vancouver. The Ospreys women are currently No. 2 in the NWAC South Region while the Ospreys men sit in sixth place.
