Ospreys Volleyball earns South Region Championship with final match victory

MEDFORD – The Rogue Community College Ospreys downed Southwest Oregon Community College 3-0 at home on Tuesday November12 to cement a Northwest Athletic Conference South Region Championship. The commanding victory was the final match of the Ospreys’ first volleyball season. Their win, combined with a Lane Community College loss, edged the Ospreys into the South Region Championship.

The Ospreys (26-3, 14-2 NWAC) were celebrating sophomore night against Southwest Oregon (17-17, 4-12 NWAC). After dominating in the first two sets, they played a close third to win with ease 3-0.

In Eugene, Lane Community College (22-9, 13-2 NWAC) fell to Linn Benton Community College (27-10, 13-3 NWAC) at home 3-2. The loss pushed Lane (13-2 NWAC)into a tie for first place with the Ospreys (14-2 NWAC). Lane has one more match on Nov. 14, but even with a victory the Ospreys will be top seed out of the South as they have the tiebreaker; beating Lane in regular season play. It is the first championship in Rogue’s history and tops of the historic first year for Ospreys volleyball.

The Ospreys will head to Tacoma, Washington for the NWAC Volleyball Championships on Thursday November 21. It is a 16-team double elimination tournament. The Ospreys will be the #1 seed out of the South.
