TACOMA, WA — The Rogue Community College Ospreys volleyball team earned a win followed by a loss at the NWAC Volleyball Championships on Saturday, Nov. 23, brining the team's inaugural season to an end in fifth place at the double-elimination tournament.
The Ospreys (28-5, 14-2 NWAC) started the third day of the tournament facing Bellevue College (25-13, 8-4 NWAC), a team that had already eliminated two No. 1 seeds. The Ospreys, seeded No. 1 in the South Region, played an intense back-and-forth match, pulling away in the third set to win 2-1.
The Ospreys next faced Pierce College (38-3, 12-0 NWAC), the only other remaining No. 1 seed. Rogue played the Raiders tight and close but ultimately couldn’t find an answer to the big hitters that Pierce had. The Ospreys fell 2-0 and were eliminated, ending the season in tie for fifth place.
The Osprey ended their historic first season with a final record of 28-5. Along the way, the team collected:
— Seven Player of the Week awards in the NWAC South Region.
— Two nods for Adidas Conference Player-of-the-Week.
— Four players selected as All-Stars.
— One Coach of the Year award.
— the South Region Championship and the No. 1 seed out of the South, making it to the third day of the NWAC Championships.
