MEDFORD – The Rogue Community College Ospreys Men’s Soccer team hosted Chemeketa Community College on Saturday April 17th. A slow first half saw the tempo pick up in the second as the Ospreys unleashed their balanced offensive attack led by Jhoel Sarraude and Randy Rodriguez to win 3-2.
The Ospreys (1-1) were looking to find their offensive attack against Chemeketa (0-1) after a tough opening day loss. They did just that with 18 shots and 14 of them on goal. The first goal came early, the 7th minute, as Randy Rodriguez played the ball in from the right side to Jhoel Sarraude who collided with a defender and the keeper only to see the ball bounce through and roll into the goal. The Ospreys would maintain pressure for the half but end it up 1-0.
The second match saw Chemeketa adjust and push the pace looking to equalize. In the 51st minute they would sneak one inside the left post just under the diving Gio Rodriguez to equalize at 1-1. Then in the 62nd minute the first of three 1v1 opportunities came for the Ospreys as their counter offense worked to perfection leading Jhoel Sarraude to his 2nd goal of the match to go up 2-1. In the 65th minute Sarraude would play it forward to Randy Rodriguez who went 1v1 to put the Ospreys up 3-1. In the 80th minute Chemeketa would find the net with a ball from the top of the box. The defense would hold and the Ospreys won 3-2.
The Ospreys are playing in a shortened NWAC South Region season, a round of 3 games each versus Lane and Chemeketa. They will play Lane (1-0) in Eugene OR on Wednesday April 21st at 12pm.
