EUGENE – The Rogue Community College Ospreys Volleyball team was on the road against the undefeated Lane Community College for the South Region Championship. Looking to avenge their losses earlier this seasons the Ospreys came out with confidence, defense, and a spread attack to win 3-1 (26-24, 17-25, 25-20, 25-21) and go back-to-back as NWAC South Region Champions to start the programs 2-year history.
The Ospreys (11-3) were coming of a delayed semi-final match against Linn-Benton knowing they had to start hot to beat the undefeated Lane (16-1) if they wanted to repeat as South Region Champions. The first set showed the talent of the two teams as they went back-and-forth until the Ospreys built a small lead and held on to win 26-24. The second set saw the talent of Lane come forth as they opened up a lead they would not give back to win 25-17.
Going into the third set the Ospreys settled into the style that has set the tone for the program over their first 2 years. Their defense would lead and their ability to hit from anywhere on the floor pushed through to win the third 25-20. The fourth set fell right into the Ospreys hands as they went back-and-forth until the strong defense and quick attack won the set 25-21 and the match 3-1.
The Ospreys repeat as NWAC South Region Champions to start the programs two year history. Over that time they have accumulated 11 players of the week, 2 adidas NWAC athletes of the week, five 1st team all-stars, two 2nd team all-stars, 3 academic excellence awards, 5 4-year signings, and coach of the year for 2019 and pending for 2020.
The Ospreys will return for their third season this coming Fall.
