GRANTS PASS – The Rogue Community College Ospreys Women’s Soccer team is going to remain inactive for the Fall 2021 NWAC season. Plans to return Fall 2022.
After a difficult 2020 year in which the season was pushed back multiple times the program lacked the numbers to compete in the shortened spring season and joined the fifty percent of the region who did not compete. Summer training began and the program looked to have the numbers it needed but due to injuries, and COVID concerns among other challenges the rosters numbers took a drastic hit. At this point in the season it has become unrealistic to field a competitive roster.
The decision was made to keep the team on hiatus and work to build a full roster for the Fall 2022 season. “The past 18 months have put people into a situation where they are very careful with decisions about their future and unfortunately athletics is one of those places where we are feeling it,” said Athletic Director Darren Van Lehn. “It is very disappointing. Nobody wanted this to happen, but we move forward from where we are at and plan for the future.”
Athletes who remain in the program will have the opportunity to still train and access athletics department resources. To build the program back and return to competition Fall 2022 the program will be scheduling a variety of tournaments and ID camps in the coming months and through the spring.
Ospreys athletics will compete in Men’s Soccer as well as Women’s Volleyball in the Fall. Both programs are coming off South Region championships last year and are currently undefeated to date.
