GRANTS PASS – The Rogue Community College Ospreys Volleyball team was on the road Friday September 3rd and Saturday September 4th at the Spokane College Invitational in Spokane WA. The tournament consisted of the previous top 8 finishers across the NWAC in pool play with the finishing position matched up for a tournament finale. The Ospreys went 2-1 in pool play to win their group and finished the tournament in second at 2-2 after falling 1-3 to Linn-Benton in the championship match. Both Devin Ireland and Amanda Klotz would be named All-Stars of the Match.
The first match pitted the Ospreys (5-2) against the tournament host Spokane (2-3). The Ospreys battled back and forth, holding leads in all sets, but ultimately fell 2-3. The second match of the day on Friday was against Highline College (4-5) and saw the Ospreys find their varied attack offensive rhythm to close out the match in four with a 3-1 win.
The Ospreys would start the second day of the tournament 1-1 playing against the undefeated Whatcom College (10-2) and would stun them with a dominant 3-0 win. That win would win their pool and put them into the tournament championship match against familiar foe Linn-Benton Community College (6-1). The Ospreys would struggle after winning the first set and would fall in four losing 1-3 and finishing in second place.
Devin Ireland and Amanda Klotz were both named to the 8-person All-Star team and will look to carry that momentum into the start of region play this coming Wednesday September 8th when they host Southwestern Community College (0-6) at 6:30pm in Medford. The Ospreys will head to Pierce College for the two-day NWAC Crossover Thursday September 9th.
