GRANTS PASS – The Rogue Community College Ospreys Men’s Soccer and Women’s Volleyball teams began NWAC South Region play Wednesday September 8th. Men’s Soccer was on the road against Southwestern Community College and won 4-0 behind three goals from Jhoel Sarraude. Volleyball hosted Southwestern and won 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-17) behind 12 kills from middle Amanda Klotz.
The Ospreys (6-2, 1-0) came out struggling to land their attacks. The pressure was there against Southwestern (1-6, 0-1) and their defense kept them close but they would fight to a first set win 25-23. The second set started off similar to the first as the Ospreys own mistakes kept Southwestern close. They would maintain the lead and win 25-22.
In the third set all the Ospreys seemed to find their flow as they would climb to a big lead and win 25-17. Amanda Klotz lead the attack with 12 kills with Jeanie Palsis leading the defense. Both players making a great showing after earning South Region Player of the Week honors the previous week.
The Ospreys (3-0, 1-0) picked up right where they left off at the NWAC Friendlies against Southwestern (1-2, 0-1) in Coos Bay as they put in 3 goals in the first half. The first would come from Randy Rodriguez after an assist from Rosendo Juarez-Flores in the 9th minute. Followed up by goals in the 18th and 28th minutes by Jhoel Sarraude, both assisted by Jonny McCoy. The Ospreys would go into the half up 3-0.
The second half saw the two sides getting chippy as 5 yellow cards were handed out. In the 79th minute Jhoel Sarraude would secure his 3rd goal of the match, his 3rd hat trick of the season, and surpass his career goal total (9) with now 10 goals on the year. The Ospreys would win the match 4-0.
There were 8 Yellow Cards issued during the match: RCC Sam Macias (45’), Hector Pinto-Perez (53’), and Race Rome (57’). SWOCC Noah Balaam (19’), Dustin Corbin (27’), Isaiah Lundberg (44’), Bryan Oliveira (45’), and Toby Balaam (86’).
Volleyball is on the road for the Pierce College Crossover Friday September 10th and Saturday September 11th and will play up to 5 matches in a group play based tournament. Men’s Soccer is on the road Saturday September 11th when they take on Lane Community College (0-2, 0-1) at 6:00pm in Eugene.
