GRANTS PASS – The Rogue Community College Ospreys Men’s Soccer team was hosting Lane Community College on Wednesday September 22nd at US Cellular Community Park. The Ospreys jumped ahead early only to see Lane fight back to equalize when Rosendo “Pizo” Juarez Flores made the play of the match to beat 4 defenders to set up Jhoel Sarraude for the winning goal. It was Juarez Flores’ 8th assist on the season and Sarraude’s 12th goal.
The Ospreys (5-0-1, 3-0-1) came out with the pedal to the metal against the Lane Titans (1-4-1, 1-2-1) as they pressed the attack and in the 12th minute Zach Olson would collect a ball off a defender and drive it into the net for his first goal of the season and putting the Ospreys up 1-0. In the 17th minute Jhoel Sarraude was taken down in the box and awarded a penalty kick. He drove it straight in to put the Ospreys up 2-0. In the 25th minute the ball appeared to roll out but Lane capitalized on the lack of whistle and scored to leave the score 2-1 at the half.
In the second half the Ospreys released some of the pressure and Lane made a push. A foul awarded them a free kick from outside the box and they would find the net to equalize in the 60th minute. Late in the match, in the 78th minute, Rosendo Juraez Flores made the play of the match when he received a pass from Josue Reyes at the midline, drove past two defenders, then avoided two slide tackles playing a slow ball to the middle where Sarraude would strike it into the goal. The Ospreys would hold on to win 3-2.
The Ospreys are on the road for their next match this Saturday September 25th at Clark College (1-1-2, 1-1-2) in Vancouver WA at 12:00pm. They currently sit in first place in the NWAC South Region with 10 points.
