Men’s Soccer Advances to Elite 8 with 5-2 Win

GRANTS PASS – The Rogue Community College Ospreys Men’s Soccer team was hosting its second every playoff game Wednesday November 3rd. They took on Bellevue College in the Regional Round of the NWAC Playoffs. The Ospreys offense rolled to a 5-2 win led by Jhoel Sarraude who had four goals, 20 total on the season, setting the all-time single season record for the Ospreys and becoming the goal-scoring leader in the NWAC.

The Ospreys (9-2-2, 6-2-2) were facing Bellevue (6-8-3, 5-6-2) for a second time this season after they opened against them with a 7-0 shutout win. The offense would pick up right where it left off as Jonny McCoy broke free in the 28th minute and hit a shot that was saved only to collect the ball and fire it into the net to go up 1-0. In the 38th minute Ricardo Escobar would play one in to Jhoel Sarraude who would get his first of four goals on the day. Just before the half Hector Pinto-Perez found Sarraude who would put the Ospreys up 3-0 at the half.

As the second half began Randy Rodriguez would play to Sarraude who would score in the 48th minute. Bellevue found the net twice in the second half before Sarraude would shut the door as Rodriguez picked up his second assist on the day in the 76th minute and the Ospreys would win 5-2.

Jhoel Sarraude sets the single season goal scoring record for the Ospreys with 20 on the season, the previous record being 19 by Brandon Sauceda in 2016, while also moving into first place in the individual NWAC standings for total goals scored. The Ospreys will travel to Port Angeles WA on Saturday November 6th to take on the number one ranked Peninsula College (15-0-1, 12-0-1) at 2:15pm.
