Volleyballs Season Ends with Back-to-Back 5 Set Thrillers

GRANTS PASS – The Rogue Community College Ospreys Volleyball team was in Bellevue WA for their the group play round of the NWAC Volleyball Championships on Sunday November 14th. The Ospreys need one win to move to the Elite 8 after defeating Highline (17-10, 10-2) the previous day. Up first Spokane (18-9, 11-5). They found themselves in storm and were overwhelmed by the surging four-seed who won out in group play losing 2-3 (26-24, 22-25, 16-25, 25-19, 7-15).

That left them with one final chance to advance, later that afternoon against tournament host Bellevue (22-8, 10-2). The Ospreys (21-10, 11-5) showed heart, grit, and the passion that they are capable of as they fought to stay alive in a match where over 240 points were scored. It would come down to the fifth set and the Ospreys couldn’t find the win losing 2-3 (29-27, 19-25, 22-25, 37-35, 7-15).

They were led by (stats combined) Amanda Klotz with 35 Kills, Tessa Frodge with 24, Catherine Rostel 22 Kills and 44 Digs, and Toni Stevens with 19 Kills. Jeanie Palsis, Kylie Anderson, and Kylee Aiwohi combined for another 107 digs while Devin Ireland had 107 assists with 19 Digs.

The loss ended the third season of Volleyball for the Ospreys. They accumulated 9 Region Player of the Week awards and 2 Conference Player of the Week awards as they qualified for playoffs for a third straight season finishing in the top 12 of the NWAC.
